Do the 6 Reset Users Permissions, then do the 12/13 OnyX cache cleaning and Verify preference files and list the corrupted ones and delete them and. Is the one for Mail, it's not a System file, but a user account prefernence file. This can be set through the StartUp.Answer: A: The /Library/Preferences is a User account folder holding your preference file.Once in Recovery mode, open Terminal from the Utilities menu. Start up in Recovery mode by holding Command-R. Apple doesn’t state which versions of macOS this applies to, but it should be for Catalina 10.15.4 at least. The new procedure consists of the following sequence: Once that has completed, click on the Exit button. If that isn’t an admin account, Apple doesn’t explain what you should do. Select the correct user account from those offered, and enter the admin password for that account. That should launch the Repair Home app.
Start up in Recovery mode again and erase your startup disk as detailed here. Ensure you have a full backup of your Mac. Once that is complete, restart in normal mode.If that procedure doesn’t resolve the problems, Apple recommends: Change Permissions For Files On Created In Pages Free Utility PermissionScannerThis doesn’t appear to have propagated out to some localised pages yet, which may still show the previous version.Apple has removed its article, and currently doesn’t appear to cover this problem at all. We may all be locked down at present, but that doesn’t mean we want to spend all day tinkering with our Macs to sort them out.To see the revised procedure, you may need to read Apple’s US version of this note here. Apple, you need to come up with something a tad more practical. Use Migration Assistant to restore files from your previous account. If you think that is an incredibly long-winded procedure to correct the permissions on a few property lists in ~/Library/Preferences, you may instead prefer to use my free utility PermissionScanner and the procedure which I previously described, before attempting such extreme measures. If macOS has reached the stage where you have to do that to fix permissions on a few files, then we’re all in deep trouble. I came across these new instructions of resetting user permissions and decided to follow through with Apple’s instructions since I was already in Recovery Mode from disabling SIP. We’re just in the middle of the ugly transition right now. After updating to 10.15.4, I had an issue with an older, no longer used kext file which was locked from removal without disabling SIP. I get the impression that they’re just trying to run out the clock until Macs can run on ARM processors (coming soon) and then they will move over completely to a locked-down MacOS/iOS successor that removes the meddlesome user from system configuration and administration altogether. It happened with automobiles, home appliances, and home entertainment, and it’s only a matter of time before computers fall to the same simplification. If the setup is this brittle you’d think Apple could redesign how the user-accessible pieces are maintained such that they are no longer at risk of such problems (which is essentially what iOS does, with all the compromises and limitations that come with it).In watching MacOS grow over the years, with the addition of countless new features, processes, files, and their myriad interdependencies, I think that Apple has thrown up their hands in terms of trying to keep their own developers under control. If you use Get Info or other methods to change those permissions, you could experience issues such as these…”They don’t then explain *which* of the files or folders are vulnerable to this behavior. As soon as I have any further news on this, I will update this article.“Your home folder contains many files and folders that apps on your Mac have permission to read or modify. I’ve reinstalled 10.15.4 but this hasn’t resolved the issue of receiving this error with missing ‘com.appleViewBridge.plist’. But, booting back into macOS, then the file is discoverable at ‘/Library/Preferences/’ and at ‘~/Library/Preferences/’. Sure enough, listing files at the location in Recovery Mode, this plist file was missing along with many others. However, when initiating it, I’m presented with an error related to missing/couldn’t find ‘com.apple.ViewBridge.plist’. Darken print on hp for mac os 1013Thoughts? Since the System drive is read-only I wonder if during the upgrade process the Admin account was unable to take ahold of necessary files especially since Mojave didnt have split partitions and now Catalina does. What I’m leaning towards is an issue with the split partitions of a Data drive and System drive that Catalina has now implemented. I can turn FileVault off, I can turn SIP off, and I can run sudo elevated commands via Terminal. I have multiple users who have upgraded from Mojave to Catalina and now can’t unlock System Preferences even though theyre admins, the GUI just shakes. Anyone else who’ve followed these new steps observe the same error of a missing file?I know this is slightly off topic but I’ve come across this article and decided to ask.
